UNIDO is supporting cooperation and transfer of know-how among Arab countries in the area of quality infrastructure and trade facilitation


As part of its support to build and reinforce national accreditation system of Palestine to provide internationally recognized accreditation services to testing laboratories in the country, UNIDO organized a training session on ISO/IEC 17025:2015 in Amman (Jordan) during the period 23-27 th April 2016. The training was facilitated by TUNAC’s (Tunisian Accreditation Council) experts with the participation of 13 PALAC (Palestine Accreditation Unit) trainee technical assessors and lead assessors. This action will be followed by the participation of these technical assessors and lead assessors at the assessments of testing and calibration laboratories in Palestine and Tunisia.

The process of the joint accreditation of two Palestinian laboratories by TUNAC and PALAC also started. With the aim to provide Palestinian laboratories an internationally recognized accreditation certificates via a joint PALAC & TUNAC assessments, two testing laboratories have been selected and requested documents prepared in order to start the accreditation process.

In order to support the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) SMEs, UNIDO is also organizing a regional trade capacity building training in cooperation with the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO). The workshop, which will take place in October/November 2016, will involve standardization bodies from GCC countries and define the way forward for supporting GCC SMEs in benefiting from the quality infrastructure services available both at regional and national levels.

Moreover UNIDO initiated contacts with SSMO (Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization) to launch activities related to the development of the National Quality Policy (NQP), the development of an accreditation System that meets with regional and international requirements and the start-up of the Arab Accreditation Cooperation (ARAC) peer evaluation process that will be achieved with the support of an international recognized accreditation body from an Arabic country.
